We're learning a bit more about a fatal shooting in Northampton County. Forks Township police say a man was shot to death around 7:45 Tuesday night inside a home on Derhammer Street. Investigators say the man was hit by a gunshot that was fired through the floor of the home. The investgation continues.
Sentencing is scheduled for August 25th for Enrique Mercado after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a girl at a Mount Pocono campground. Mercado raped the girl in the summer of 2021 when he was 14 years old at the campground where he was working as a maintenance man. Despite his age at the time of the rape, Mercado was treated as an adult in the case and could get more than 30 years in prison.
The identity is now known of a man whose body was recovered from the Delaware River last weekend. Northampton County officials said 45-year-old Brian King was swept away by the current while fishing in the river on Sunday and did not resurface. He was found dead a few hours later. His death has been ruled an accident.
A 34-year-old Bath man now knows how much time he'll spend in jail for ripping off the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program and several Lehigh Valley car dealerships. Justin Heimbach has been sentenced to six years and three months behind bars and must repay nearly $600,000 in restitution. Heimbach defrauded four Lehigh Valley car dealerships by buying vehicles in the names of other construction companies registered or associated with him. He wrote checks for those vehicles on bank accounts that did not have enough money to cover the transactions. He operated a construction company filed PUA applications containing false statements in the names of people no longer employed by the company because of the pandemic. The state approved the applications and Heimbach took a portion of the money for personal use.
Governor Shapiro is urging lawmakers to get working on a bill to legalize and set terms for so-called skill games. This after the PA Supreme Court ruled they are actually slot machines and are illegal as things stand now. Reporter Alex Thill. "I was encouraged when the leadership in the Senate said they want to get it done now," Shapiro said.
The Trump administration is revealing details on a memorandum of understanding with Iran. Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick details his non-negotiables when it comes to what is outlined in the memorandum. "There can be no path in any final agreement to Iran having a nuclear weapon and they have to give up the enriched uranium. There's a 60 day period where those terms will be negotiated as I understand it," the Republican says. McCormick says the Iranian regime must take tangible, verifiable steps towards nuclear disarmament before receiving relief.

Pennsylvania is being ranked in the bottom half of states in terms of safety for members of the LGBTQ community. That's according to the 2026 LGBTQ State Safety Report Cards released by the website SafeHome.org. Each state was given a ranking based off factors such as legislation which helps or hurts the LGBTQ community and the number of hate crimes against members of the community. The report ranked Pennsylvania in 26th place with a letter grade of a B-minus. The safest state was listed as Nevada, while the most unsafe state was listed as West Virginia.
Police in Stafford Township say an undocumented resident has been charged with hitting a federal immigration officer during the township's enforcement stop this week. Meanwhile, a Peruvian national, identified as Friedrich Castillo-Ormeno, does not now appear to be the man who was initially accused in the incident, according to court documents. Federal prosecutors say 39-year-old Eduardo Cruz Garcia allegedly drove a van into an ICE agent Monday as officers tried to contact the vehicle's occupants. Investigators allege the agent was wedged between the van and an ICE vehicle before Cruz Garcia struck a second government vehicle and fled. The agent was treated at a hospital after discharging his weapon as the van drove away. Previously, ICE had identified the suspect as Friedrich Castillo-Ormeno, who had been issued an order to leave the country in January. His family had disputed that identification and said he returned to Peru in March.
It was an inevitable celebration of life. Linden New Jersey resident Luis Cano was known as the "oldest living man in the United States" when he passed away on Monday. Mayor Derek Armstead put out a statement on Wednesday, saying in part, "his presence was a true blessing to our community, and his remarkable legacy will not be forgotten." NJ.com is reporting Cano immigrated to America from Colombia in 1991, became a citizen in 2004 and lived in the Union County city the past 20 years. The city and its police department just celebrated Cano's 111th birthday with a procession of vehicles and a proclamation this past December.
Jersey Mike's has dethroned Chick-fil-A as America's favorite fast food chain. The Jersey Shore-based sub specialist has edged Georgia-based Chick-fil-A by one point in the Annual American Customer Satisfaction Index. The results are based on 16,000 surveys sent out between April of last year and March of this year. Jersey Mike's scored 84 out of a-hundred, moving it to America's top fast food spot.
The Phillies sent struggling pitcher Andrew Painter down to the IronPigs after Painter gave up six runs in just two innings in Wednesday's 12-4 loss to Miami. Manager Don Mattingly says Painter's confidence is probably shaken. "I would say it almost has to waver some. He's been pretty resilient to this point, but I would have to say it's wavering," Mattingly says. Painter heads to Allentown with a record of 1-8 and an ERA just a bit above seven.
