Thursday night was a particularly busy one for firefighters in Allentown. The first call came in just before 8 o'clock for a fire that badly damaged a one-story commercial building in the 1100 block of North Irving Street. The second fire broke out less than a half-hour later at a row home in the 400 block of Washington Street. Firefighters were brought in from other areas of Lehigh County because several Allentown crews were already fighting the North Irving Street fire. No injuries are reported in either fire.
Authorities are investigating a crash in Lehigh County Thursday morning. Police say the wreck happened on Fullerton Avenue near Route 22 in Whitehall Township shortly before 7 a.m. One person was injured, but their condition remains unknown.
The Pennsylvania Lottery has announced the winning tickets for the New Year’s Millionaire Raffle drawing, which was held on January 3. Four $1 million tickets were sold and four $100,000 winners were as well, including one at the Wawa in Upper Hanover Township. Prizes must be claimed and tickets validated before winners can be identified. Winners have one year from the drawing date to claim their prizes. Players are advised to immediately sign their winning tickets.
The Pennsylvania men killed in a Monday morning crash on I-80 in Monroe County have now been identified. 25-year-old Adam Lander and 32-year-old Nathaniel Durell were both killed after being thrown from their truck after leaving the road, going down an embankment and hitting a tree. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. State police are investigating the crash.
Governor Josh Shapiro launched his re-election campaign yesterday with rallies in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. "Every single Pennsylvanian should have the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed no matter what you look like, or where you come from, or who you love, or who you pray to or choose not to pray to," Shapiro said to cheers. Shapiro says his administration's first term has achieved bipartisan compromise, created union jobs, and significantly increased funding for education in the Commonwealth.

In a 52-47 vote, the U.S. Senate has approved legislation that would block President Donald Trump from launching future attacks on Venezuela without congressional approval. Republican Pennsylvania Sen. Dave McCormick voted against the measure, while Democrat John Fetterman voted in favor of it. Fetterman while he believes the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro was a positive development for Venezuela and its people, he wanted the legislation to move forward for a full debate on the Senate floor. Every Democrat senator voted for the measure, while five Republicans did likewise.
New Jersey state lawmakers have advanced a handful of bills that target local cooperation with federal ICE agents and also expand protections for immigrants in the state. The bills advanced through committees yesterday and go before the full Legislature Monday. Their passage follows this week's deadly shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The bills include a measure to codify an attorney general's order to limit cooperation between federal immigration officials and New Jersey law enforcement. The bills would also block government agencies and healthcare facilities from asking for immigration status in some cases.
It's the Eagles and 49ers in round one of the NFL Playoffs this weekend. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni says there's a lot to like about the 49ers. "I can't tell you how much respect I have for that football team. You can see how well coached they are. You can see how talented their players are and how hard they play," Sirianni says. The Eagles and Niners kickoff Sunday at 4:30. It'll be their third playoff matchup.
