Effective December 1, St. Luke's University Health Network will suspend its labor and delivery services at its Grand View campus in Bucks County. St. Luke's says the move comes after a number of unexpected doctor resignations. All births will be sent to St. Luke's-Upper Bucks in Milford Township, about eight miles from the Grand View campus and all affected employees will be offered jobs at the same hospital as well. Just in time for the extremely busy Christmas season, the brand new Walnut Street Parking Garage will open up on Thursday in Bethlehem. Mayor William Reynolds says it's just in the nick of time. "We have a good problem to have. We have more people who want to come downtown than places for them to park," Reynolds says. The previous garage was torn down almost two years ago and with it went 770 parking spots. The new $27 million garage has just 517 spots, but it also holds 3,000 square feet of retail space. The official ribbon-cutting and opening of the garage is Thursday, with the first four hours of parking there are free on that first day.

The Easton Area school board voted 8-1 Tuesday night to accept a proposal to replace the air conditioning system for the Easton Area Public Library's Church Street building. The contract is for a $832,550 project to replace the air-conditioning chiller at the library, which is owned by the school district.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission will hold four public hearings on PPL Electric's proposed rate increase. The PUC will hear from area residents at the Catasauqua Municipal Building on December 9th. The commission voted unanimously last month to suspend PPL's rate hike request and launch an investigation. If approved, PPL says the average residential customer's electric bill would go up by about 13 dollars a month.
