A toddler is dead in Lehigh County after being hit by a vehicle. State Police say a two-and-a-half-year-old boy was fatally struck on Bachman Road in Upper Milford Township Thursday evening. He has not been identified. Authorities are investigating.
Police in Carbon County are investigating a pedestrian accident involving a child that happened on Thursday. A young boy was hit by a pick-up truck on South 7th Street in Lehighton near a park around 4:00 Thursday afternoon. The driver remained on scene, and the child was treated on the scene and not transported to the hospital.
Two teenagers are facing charges after a bomb threat was made toward a high school in Allentown. Authorities say the threat was reported at William Allen High School yesterday shortly before 11:30, forcing the campus to go into lockdown. Officers did not find any dangerous materials during a search of the building, and two 14-year-olds allegedly involved in the threat were later taken into custody. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
Former Nazareth High School football star and current Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson is coming back to his alma mater tonight. Dotson returns tonight to have his number 5 retired by the high school. Those ceremonies will be at halftime of tonight's Nazareth-Bethlehem Catholic game. Before heading off to Penn State, Dotson set school records with 187 receptions, 2755 receiving yards and 40 touchdowns.
State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens released details about a Wednesday night shootout in Franklin County that left two state troopers wounded and the suspect dead. Bivens says Baltimore's Lamar Foy began shooting at troopers from inside his van after being pulled over following a chase after Foy and two Baltimore women allegedly stole more than $1000 worth of women's clothing from a Dick's Sporting Goods store. "As troopers positioned themselves in places of cover behind their vehicles and adjacent to their vehicles, he actually ran out the side door of the van and charged the troopers in an effort to shoot them and continued firing at them as he ran towards them," Bivens said. One of the wounded officers, 31-year-old Lucas Amarose, remains in the hospital in critical condition. The second trooper, 23-year-old Thomas Pack, has been released from the hospital. Foy was killed by a third trooper. Foy had a long criminal record in Maryland dating back in 2011.
While President Trump has not won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. John Fetterman says he would deserve next year's if he can broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine in addition to helping end the bloodshed in Gaza. "If he brings the Ukrainian war to an end, I'll be the Democrat leading the committee for his Nobel Peace Prize for ending both of these terrible wars," Fetterman says. Fetterman credits the president with pushes a peace deal to the finish line between Hamas and Israel and hopes he can manage the same with Ukraine and Russia.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is joining a coalition of states opposing President Trump's deployment of National Guard troops across the country. The governor filed an amicus briefing with 22 other states arguing Trump's deployment of troops to Oregon is illegal and "flouts the vision of our Founders." The filing says the authority to regulate the National Guard is only granted to governors. Shapiro said he filed the brief to "make very, very clear" that the Pennsylvania National Guard is under his command, and will be used "responsibly."
The National Weather Service says the chances for a powerful nor'easter that's likely to hit New Jersey Sunday have increased and will bring up to five inches of rain and major coastal flooding. A high wind watch and a coastal flood watch have already been issued for the Jersey Shore. Ahead of the system, temperatures overnight dipped into the 20s and 30s and prompted frost advisories and freeze warnings. More gusty winds will be felt along the immediate shoreline.
The GOP nominee for New Jersey governor, former Assemblyman Jack Ciatterelli, says he'll sue his Democratic opponent, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, over her claim that he profited from the opioid crisis. Sherrill made the claim Wednesday night at the second and final debate between the two. Sherill accused Ciatterelli of profiting from the opioid crisis through a medical publishing company the former assemblyman owned that promoted opioids for treatment of chronic pain. Ciatterelli sold the company in 2017. His campaign says it will sue Sherrill for defamation over what it calls inflammatory allegations about Ciatterelli's career.
The Phillies season ended last night with a bases loaded throwing error by pitcher Orion Kerkering in the bottom of the 11th inning. Manager Rob Thomson was seen putting his arm around Kerkering after the error and said what he told his pitcher. "I told him to keep his head up. He just got caught up in the moment a little bit. Coming down the stretch he pitched so well for us. I feel for him. He puts it on his shoulders, but we win as a team and we lose as a team," Thomson said. The Phillies could only muster four hits over 11 innings in the 2-1 loss. The Dodgers will play either Chicago or Milwaukee for the National League title beginning next week.
