Last month, the City of Allentown extended a deadline for homeless people to leave their encampment along the Jordan Creek. That deadline is today. The city says its public works staff will begin clearing out the area today and by that point, all people living there are expected to be out of there. Allentown police and community intervention specialists will be on hand in case some people ignore the order to leave. The Allentown YMCA warming station, which is usually only open from mid-November through the winter, will open at 7 tonight to shelter residents who are displaced from the camp. The station has 80 beds after it increased its capacity from 60 this year and is open from 7pm to 7 a.m. daily. The warming station typically opens in mid-November to house homeless people during the colder months. Funding from Allentown, the United Way and the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation made the early opening possible.

Congress works to avert a government shutdown ahead of the September 30th deadline. Republicans in the House have already passed a temporary measure to keep spending at current levels. Pennsylvania Republican Congressman Dan Meuser says the Democrats are trying to undo all of the GOP's progress made in the One Big Beautiful Bill. "They want us to pull all the main provisions that had savings. They're going to shutdown the government if we don't refund PBS and swear never to have any further rescissions," Meuser says. Democrats want to extend affordable care act tax credits and warn that healthcare premiums will become more expensive if they are allowed to expire.

Governor Phil Murphy says he'll oppose any attempt to repatriate the remains of Assata Shakur back to the United States. Shakur -- who changed her name from Joanne Chesimard -- was convicted of killing New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster during a shootout in 1973. She died last week in Cuba at the age of 78 from old age and health complications. The New York-born fugitive was Tupac Shakur's godmother. Governor Murphy said New Jersey had worked with the State Department for years to bring Chesimard back to New Jersey. The FBI and the New Jersey Attorney General's office had each offered a one-million-dollar reward for her capture.
The Eagles are one of two undefeated teams remaining in the NFL after holding on to beat Tampa Bay 31-25 Sunday afternoon. Head coach Nick Sirianni says it's nice to be 4-0, but he and his players aren't getting too excited. "To be 4-0, that's good. What we've talked about is don't let good get in the way of great. We'll enjoy this tonight. We'll enjoy this in the locker room. We'll enjoy this on the plane and then tomorrow is going to be tough for all of us," Sirianni says. The Buffalo Bills are the other 4-0 team. The Eagles host Denver this coming Sunday.
