The person is hospitalized after n overnight shooting in Bethlehem. The shooting was reported just before 1 o'clock this morning in the 400 block of Pierce Street. One person went to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Their condition is not known at this point.
In a surprise announcement, Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant has suddenly closed all of its locations, including the one at the Lehigh Valley Mall, that opened last year. Iron Hill was founded in 1996 and operated in five states. In an email to its employees, the company's leadership said they'll be filing for bankruptcy due to ongoing financial challenges.
An investigation is underway after a pharmacy was robbed in Northampton County. Authorities say a man broke into a pharmacy on South Broadway in Wind Gap overnight Thursday and stole over $8000 worth of Oxycodone and Promethazine in just two minutes. Officers believe the man knew the layout of the pharmacy since he was able to locate the narcotics so quickly. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police.
A former substitute teacher will spend time in jail for an indecent assault in a store. Jared Gerhard was sentenced to between 9-and-23 months behind bars yesterday after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges. Authorities said Gerhard indecently assaulted an autistic 17-year-old girl at a Marshall's in Lower Macungie Township last year. He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Lehigh Valley International Airport is celebrating its most successful summer ever. Officials say the airport broke its record for the most passengers from June-through-August, serving just under 300-thousand travelers. That includes over 97-thousand last month. The airport has seen at least 85-thousand passengers per month since March.
Northern York County Regional Police Chief David Lash was among the speakers at Thursday's funeral for three of his officers, who were murdered last week in North Cadorus Township. "Detective Sgt. Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser. They were gentle. They were kind. They confronted some of the most evil human behaviors imaginable. Not only did they face those challenges, they did so while holding fast to faith, compassion and uncompromising honor," Lash said. Lash says all three loved their families, their police department, their fellow officers and the communities they served.
The Justice Department is suing six states including Pennsylvania for failing to provide requested voter registration lists. The lawsuit claims the Commonwealth violated federal law, specifically the Help America Vote Act. The DOJ wants information like names, birth dates, and parts of Social Security numbers to ensure compliance with voting rights laws. Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt said the Justice Department's "demand" is "unprecedented and unlawful," and the state will "vigorously fight" the lawsuit in court.
A new scam targeting seniors is being seen across Pennsylvania. Wheelchairs and walkers are being deliverd that were never ordered. The scammers then bill the senior or Medicare. Katie Catchmark with the Berks County Office of Aging offers advice on what to do if this happens to you. "The most immediate thing you could do is contest it with the insurance company. Call and let them know immediately that you did not order it nor authorize it," Catchmark says.
Hershey is the winner of a lawsuit claiming its Reese's Halloween candies aren't spooky enough. The class-action lawsuit accused the company of false advertising because its Jack-o'-Lantern Reese's Cups don't have a face, but the packaging for the product depicts a grinning pumpkin. The consumers claimed they were "disappointed" when they unwrapped the treat. But a U.S. district judge ruled the lawsuit failed to prove that there was any economic injury.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is striking down the so-called "Jock Tax in the city of Pittsburgh. In a ruling issued yesterday, the court deemed the tax unconstitutional, saying it violates the state uniformity clause. The city has been collecting three-percent of the income made by athletes and performers who play or put on shows at PNC Park, PPG Paints Arena, and Acrisure Stadium. Deputy Mayor Jake Pawlak says, without the tax, the city will be losing about four-million dollars per year.
The U.S. Postal Service is now accepting letter submissions for this year's Operation Santa campaign. The annual initiative connects kids and families in-need with people who are willing to help fulfill their wishes for the holiday season. Letters from folks who have a request for Santa can be mailed in now through December 6th, or submitted through the Operation Santa webpage. Those who would like to help can register to adopt letter writers beginning on November 3rd.
New Jersey's Democratic congressional delegation is demanding an investigation into the improper release of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill's personal information to her Republican opponent's campaign. An ally with Republican Jack Ciattarelli's campaign requested Sherrill's records from the National Archives, which turned over her unredacted personnel records. The information included her Social Security number and the home addresses of herself and her parents. The controversy broke yesterday as another revelation was unfolding: That Sherrill did not walk with her 1994 graduating class at the U.S. Naval Academy because she refused to turn in classmates who were involved in a cheating scandal. Sherrill herself was never charged with cheating. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says he supports a criminal investigation into what he calls the illegal release of Sherrill's records. Democratic Congressman Frank Pallone sent a letter on behalf of the Democratic delegation calling on both chambers to investigate what he described as a remarkable Trump Administration failure.
City Commissioners in Wildwood are considering ordinances to keep skateboards, bicycles and e-bikes off the Boardwalk during certain times of the day. E-bikes and other vehicles with electric motors became an issue for communities over the summer as local officials grew concerned about their safety and how they're operated. In Somers Point in July, an Egg Harbor Township teen was killed while riding an e-bike on a bicycle path. An ordinance the commissioners are considering would set hours when bicycles can be used on the Boardwalk during the season.
Organizers have announced that the Thunder Over the Waves Airshow will return to Wildwood next year. The show features more than a dozen aerial acts. Officials say this first year the event was held the show drew more than 100-thousand spectators. Next year the show will be held the weekend after Labor Day, September 11th and 12th.
After throwing five shutout innings Thursday night against Miami, Phillies pitcher Walker Buehler was asked if he's put himself in the conversation to be a starter in the playoffs. "I'm hear to win a world title and whatever piece I can be in that, whether it's a starting pitcher or a cheerleader, I really don't care," Buehler says. Since signing with the Phillies, Buehler is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.66.
Penn State's first real test of the season is tomorrow night when Oregon visits Happy Valley. Head coach James Franklin hopes it isn't Penn State vs Oregon, but rather 110,000 vs Oregon. "Obviously we need this place rocking. We need to have a distinct home field advantage. We always do, but I'm expecting this to be an environment like nobody has ever seen," Franklin says. Penn State is ranked third in the AP Poll. Oregon is sixth. Kickoff at Beaver Stadium is 7:30 Saturday night.
The 76ers are already dealing with a serious injury before the regular season starts. The team announced Jared McCain suffered a UCL tear in his thumb during a workout on Thursday. The guard could miss the start of the regular season. McCain averaged more than 15 points in 23 games last year before going down with a meniscus tear and missing the rest of the season.
