A weekend crash in Northampton County has left one person dead. The crash happened Saturday night at the intersection of Riverton and Deer Run roads in Upper Mount Bethel Township. State police in Belfast say a westbound vehicle on Deer Run Road collided with a northbound vehicle on Riverton Road. The driver of the Riverton Road vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Gov. Josh Shapiro appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday and said after the murder of Charlie Kirk earlier this month, America has reached an inflection point. "I think we could go in any number of different ways. I hope we go the direction of healing, of bringing people together, of trying to find a commonality and not just focusing on our differences," Shapiro said. Shapiro says Americans must universally condemn political violence after Kirk's killing.
A child who was critically injured after he was hit by a vehicle at the Kipona Festival is out of the hospital. A crowd of family, friends, and well-wishers gathered to welcome six-year-old Faiz Shafir back home. Faiz needed emergency surgery after he and two others were struck by a vehicle that drove into the festival on Labor Day. The suspected driver faces several charges including DUI and aggravated assault.
Democrat Mikie Sherrill and Republican Jack Ciattarelli traded barbs last night at the first debate between the two candidates for New Jersey governor. The debate grew heated over the topic of political violence. Prompted by the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk the two were asked whether political violence should be labeled a hate crime. Sherrill says she has pushed for greater security for political candidate. Sherrill says she worries that people will be discouraged from running because of the rising tide of violence. Ciattarelli says all candidates need to take down the temperature of political debate. He says it's the responsibility of all candidates not to use rhetoric that divides everyone.
The three fallen Northern York County Regional Police officers were honored before yesterday's Eagles game. The crowd at Lincoln Financial Field held a moment of silence for Detectives Mark Baker, Isaiah Emenheiser, and Sergeant Detective Cody Becker. They were killed in a suspected ambush shooting last Wednesday while trying to serve a warrant. The Eagles won the game over the Los Angeles Rams 33-26.
A sad day for Philadelphia Flyers fans with the news that Hall of Fame goaltender Bernie Parent died in his sleep Saturday night into Sunday morning. Flyers coach Rick Tocchet broke in with the Flyers back in the mid-80s and says he owes a debt of gratitude to one of the most popular athletes in Philadelphia history. "One of the guys when I was an 18-year-old coming in here, one of the nicest guys who came in here was Bernie. It's a tough one," Tocchet says. Bernie Parent won both of the franchises Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 and was the playoffs MVP is each of those seasons. Bernie Parent was 80 years old.
