Speaking in Pittsburgh Tuesday, Gov. Josh Shapiro denounced all forms of political violence, and stressed the potential harms and dangers from extreme rhetoric. "Political violence is particularly dangerous. Not only does it seek to injure, maim or kill, it seeks to intimidate, to terrorize and silence," the governor says. Shapiro said party affiliation does not matter in these instances, adding that violence from either side is wrong and makes everyone less safe.
Lawmakers are warning Americans against celebrating conservative activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk's death after a string of politically-motivated attacks this year. Pennsylvania Democrat Sen. John Fetterman says comparing Kirk to Hitler and calling him a Nazi sets a dangerous precedent. "You will incite somebody to say 'now I feel like I have to stop that and take them out.' People seem to have forgotten the President took a shot to the head and could you imagine if that shot had gone the way that Charlie Kirk's went," Fetterman says. Republican Sen. Dave McCormick agrees and says calling Kirk's political beliefs extreme invites political violence. "When you see dangerous rhetoric like fascist, Nazism and authoritarianism and the end of democracy that's premissive. That takes us down a path where the inevitable next step is violence and that's what we see," McCormick says. McCormick and Fetterman appeared together on Fox News.
Senator Cory Booker clashed with FBI Director Kash Patel during Patel's hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday. Patel and Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee shouted at each another over subjects that ranged from the assassination of Charlie Kirk to the Jefferey Epstein investigations. Patel and Booker accused each other of tearing the country apart. At one point, Booker told Patel he could do a better job of defending the country. Patel's handling of the Kirk investigation has faced scrutiny, with some noting the suspected killer is behind bars because his father turned him in. Patel goes before the House today.
