An 18-year-old from Weisenberg Township is dead after a weekend crash. The Lehigh County coroner says Cole Hausman died around 10:30 Sunday night after crashing in the area of Route 100 and Lynn Valley Road. Investigators say Hausman was driving a vehicle that left the road, went down an embankment and hit several trees.
Democrat Allentown City Council member Ce-Ce Gerlach is launching a campaign for state representative in the 22nd district, which encompasses much of Center City Allentown. Josh Siegel is currently the 22nd District representative, but is running for Lehigh County executive this November. Gerlach will officially launch her campaign late next month.
In a 5-2 vote, the Southern Lehigh School District Board of Directors appointed a new district superintendent Monday night. Karen Trinkle, the district's substitute superintendent and assistant superintendent, was named superintendent in a five-year contract immediately effective and ending June 30, 2030. Trinkle was named substitute superintendent March 10 when the board placed then Superintendent Michael Mahon on administrative leave. She will receive an annual $190,000 salary.
A boil water advisory remains in effect in some parts of Lower Saucon Township after a weekend water main break. While water service has been restored, residents on Springtown Hill Road, Pennrose Street and Pearson Avenue should boil their water for about three minutes and let it cool before using it. That includes drinking it, making ice, brushing teeth or food preparation. The water will be tested over the next couple of days and the advisory will be lifted once the water is determined to be safe.
The head of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party is stepping down. Party Chair Sharif Street announced yesterday he is leaving the role to prepare for his run for Congress. Street, a State Senator from Philadelphia, said last month he plans to enter the race to succeed retiring Congressman Dwight Evans. The election to replace Street as party chair is set for September 6th.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission's Elk Cam is up and running. The camera goes live this time of year ahead of the elk rut in September. The camera will likely capture all kinds of wildlife like elk, turkeys, deer and more.
Officials in some Jersey Shore communities say the erosion to their beaches caused by Hurricane Erin has ben worse than expected. The storm stayed hundreds of miles out at sea but it caused huge waves and strong sea surges that eroded beaches. A dozen beach access paths have been rendered unusable and yesterday, crews were busy restoring the access ahead of the Labor Day weekend. The storm left cliffs as high as eight feet in some places. Officials in Strathmere say they finished their last beach replenishment project last year with more funding due by 2027, but they hope it comes sooner.
The New Jersey Attorney General's office and the Trump Administration have reached a settlement to life a freeze on more than 150 million dollars in federal education funds. The agreement ends a lawsuit brought by New Jersey and 23 other states last month against the administration's hold on 158 million dollars in essential funding for programs for immigrant children as well as children with special needs. It comes just ahead of the start of the new school year.

Former Philadelphia Eagles general manager Jim Murray died Monday. Murray was the Eagles GM from 1972 to 1981. He hired Dick Vermeil as head coach in 1976 and was the GM when the Eagles appeared in their first Super Bowl against Oakland in January 1981. Murray was very involved in charity and community work and he helped start the Eagles Fly for Leukemia program and was a co-founder of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia. Jim Murray was 87.
The Phillies scored the first three runs last night in New York, but the Mets scored the next 13 to bury the Phillies 13-3. Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper says they need to turn the page. "We've gotta be better. We'll flush this as quick as possible and just have to get ready for Tuesday," Harper said. The Mets win drew them within six games of the Phillies in the NL East. The teams play six more times, including tonight in New York.
