Pennsylvania officials report that Carmine Faino, the 61-year-old suspected of fatally shooting a neighbor and injuring two state troopers, has been killed by police after failing to comply with commands. State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris has details on those involved. "He, we believe, murdered his neighbor and he was the person who shot both of our state troopers, as well as shot at Carl Lawson," Paris says. Carl Lawson, an EMT responding to the incident, was injured after veering off the road to avoid gunfire. Both troopers were life-flighted to hospitals, are stable, and are expected to survive their injuries.
Two people are in the hospital after a shooting in Southside Bethlehem. Police say they responded to a shots fired call in the 300 block of East Third Street, shortly after midnight. Bethlehem police say they found one person who had several gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital. Police say a second person arrived at the hospital later with gunshot wounds. Both are listed in stable condition.
An Allentown Police officer is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a suspect following a police pursuit. 30-year-old Patrolman Abviud Carvajal is charged with aggravated assault and simple assault for the July 23rd incident. Carvajal was one of several uniformed Allentown Police officers involved in a vehicle pursuit which began in the 700 block of N. 11th Street that evening. The chase ended near N. 13th and W. Pennsylvania streets in Whitehall when the truck being pursued, which was driven by Thomas Kravitz Jr., struck another vehicle. Authorities say Kravitz exited the truck following the crash and raised his empty hands above his head in a sign of surrender as Carvajal, and several other APD officers, yelled verbal commands to him. As Kravitz stood there with his hands raised, Carvajal allegedly struck him in the face with the muzzle of his firearm, causing a laceration to Kravitz's head.
The Northampton County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man found dead off Route 22. 65-year-old John Pollard Jr. of South Amboy, New Jersey, was found dead Wednesday morning on the ramp from Route 22 East to Route 512 in Hanover Township.
Two people are seriously injured after a vehicle drove into a market in Allentown. Police say two men were struck by a vehicle that crashed into the Elias Farmers Market on Tilghman Street yesterday afternoon. Officers said the 71-year-old driver was trying to park when the incident happened. The investigation is ongoing.

There were more unemployment claims across the country last week, including in Pennsylvania. The U.S. Department of Labor says initial unemployment claims in the Keystone State went up by 375. It's the second time claims have increased in the Commonwealth in the past seven weeks. The Department also reported an additional 38-thousand continuous unemployment claims nationwide, bringing the total up to the highest number since 2021.
The family of a man who drowned at the Jersey Shore in the presence of lifeguards is suing Wildwood Crest. NJ.com reports the lawsuit filed in Cape May County Superior Court says 21-year-old Joseph Volm was dragged into the water in Wildwood Crest by a rip current two years ago this month. It claims that lifeguards didn't warn swimmers that the conditions were hazardous. The suit, which names Wildwood Crest and its beach patrol, is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Cincinnati Bengals 34-27 in their first game since the Super Bowl. Quarterback Tanner McKee made the most of his start in last night's preseason opener, throwing for 252 yards and two touchdowns. While most of the Eagles starters sat out, the Bengals started the game with their first string, including stars Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. The preseason continues for the Eagles next Saturday against the Cleveland Browns.
