The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says smoke from Canadian wildfires will be moving through the area for most of the day, which can cause issues for sensitive groups like the elderly, young children, and people with lung problems. Those residents are advised to limit outdoor activities and close your windows.
Lehigh County Controller Marc Pinsley has made it official: he's running for Congress. "The country is on fire and we can't put it out by cowering in the corner. Democrat Marc Pinsley doesn't sit on the sidelines. Lehigh County Controller. Successful businessman. He started as a sheet metal worker in the Army," a campaign announcement video says. Pinsley becomes the fourth Democrat to enter the race in the Lehigh Valley's 7th Congressional District. He joins Lamont McClure, Carol Obando-Derstine and Ryan Crosswell in the race.
At least one person is in the hospital after a crash in Lehigh County last night. Authorities say a vehicle rolled over in a cornfield in North Whitehall Township shortly after 9:30 p.m. The person's condition has not been released. The crash is being investigated.
A 25-year-old woman was injured Monday morning after her vehicle exited off the road and struck multiple headstones at Union Cemetery of Slatington. Pennsylvania State Police say the crash happened just before 11 a.m. on Route 873, when the woman, who was traveling northbound, for unknown reasons, went off the road. The car came to rest after colliding with several grave markers on cemetery grounds. Emergency crews extracted the driver from the vehicle, and she was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest for treatment. Her condition has not been released.
A house has been heavily damaged following a fire in Upper Saucon Township. Crews were called to the 4300 block of Fieldstone Court just before 11 p.m. Sunday. There were no reports of injuries and there is no word yet from officials of what caused the fire.
A scratch-off lottery ticket worth $5 million was sold at a Lehigh County grocery store. The Pennsylvania Lottery says the ticket was purchased at the Giant at 7150 Hamilton Blvd. in Lower Macungie Township. The grocery store will get a $10,000 bonus for selling it. The winning ticket earned the top price in the $5 million Lion’s Share scratch-off, which is a $50 game.

Registration is open now for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's summer rare bottle lottery. State residents age 21 and up can enter for a chance to purchase rare and limited release bourbons and whiskeys. The bottles range from about $60 each all the way up to $7500 for the Weller Millennium Straight Bourbon. Folks who are eligible can sign up through the Fine Wine and Good Spirits website. Registration will close this Friday at 5 p.m.
A superstar on the Eagles is turning down the President's offer to team up. Saquon Barkley declined Donald Trump's invitation to join the council on sports, fitness and nutrition. The running back told the media on Monday he was "shocked" when requested but couldn't commit due to time constraints. The 30-member council has active stars like 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa.
The Eagles and Raiders are swinging a rare player-for-player trade. ESPN reports Philly acquired Jakorian Bennett from Vegas in exchange for Thomas Booker-the-Fourth on Monday. Bennett is a cornerback and was originally taken in the fourth round of the 2023 draft. Booker is a defensive tackle and was selected by the Texans in round five of 2022.
Texas is the number one ranked team heading into the college football season. That's according to the first USA Today coaches poll released on Monday. Ohio State follows the Longhorns in second, Penn State is ranked third, while Georgia and Notre Dame round out the top five. The SEC has nine teams total in the initial rankings, while the Big Ten has six and the Big 12 has five. The ACC has three teams in the rankings, while number 25 Boise State is the only group of five team ranked.
