A 73-year-old man is dead after police shot him Wednesday afternoon. This man lives in the neighborhood and says he heard some of what happened on North 38th Street in South Whitehall Township. "I heard police saying over a loudspeaker, saying something. I thought it was just them yelling at some kid on a go-cart or something," the man said. Instead, it was police yelling at the man, who police say was carrying a rifle. Police say they told the man several times to drop the gun and stop advancing towards them. He ignored that and was eventually shot. Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan says officers used less-than-lethal force at first, but eventually opened fire, firing about six shots. Investigators say a note was found in the man's home following the incident, and preliminary findings suggest he had long-term health issues. The man's identity has not yet been released.

LANTA has revealed the six bus routes it will be eliminating June 30. The transit company says routes 503, 504, 505, 507, 508 and 603 will be eliminated, while another 28 routes will be adjusted. That's about a four percent cut in service. LANTA leaders say these cuts are separate from potential cuts announced a week ago that could happen if more state funding doesn't come LANTA's way.

Crews battled a house fire in Lower Saucon Township late Wednesday night. It happened just after 11pm in the 3100 of Apples Church Road. It took firefighters a bit over an hour to get the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
