Lenny Kravitz Receives Golden Globe Nomination For "Road To Freedom"
Lenny Kravitz is being nominated for a Golden Globe for his music contribution to the Netflix's film "Rustin." The singer was recently recognized by The Golden Globes for his latest single "Road To Freedom." "Rustin" is a Netflix original film that highlights the life of the Bayard Rustin, who coordinated the 1963 March on Washington. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Kravitz said he was inspired to write the track because he grew up in a family that was involved in the civil rights movement and he immediately fell in love with the film after watching it. The Golden Globs will take place on January 7th.
Geddy Lee Hosts Docuseries
Rush frontman Geddy Lee is not only a best-selling author, but now he can add the title of "TV Host" to his resume'. Streaming service Paramount-Plus premiered a four-episode docu-series called "Geddy Lee Asks: Are Bass Players Human Too?" Episodes include interviews with Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo. Lee's recent memoir "My Effin' Life" made the New York Times hardcover non-fiction top ten best-seller list.
Geddy Lee Says Rush Almost Scrapped 'Tom Sawyer'
"Tom Sawyer" is the biggest hit of Rush's career - and the band almost left it off the album. Geddy Lee told NPR's World Cafe that they nearly scrapped the song while attempting to record it for Moving Pictures. He says it was "a very difficult song to record... Every turn, something was going wrong.”
Of course, they did finish the song and the rest is history. Lee says it shows that "It just goes to show you, I wouldn't know a hit single if I tripped over it."

Godsmack drummer Shannon Larkin seems to feel more at ease. Talking with V13 Media, Larkin shared that touring feels more relaxed now that the band is done making albums. When discussing past priorities, Larkin recalled, "And so for the last 20, 25 years now with the guys, we put the band before family and before friends." "And so we're now at a point in our career where maybe our lives can come first," he added about the change. "And we can still do the band." Earlier this year, Godsmack released "Lighting Up the Sky," which the band announced was most likely their final collection of new music.

Battling Covid And The Flu, Skid Row Postpones More Shows
It’s that time of year when the country battles multiple illnesses as temperatures drop.. and rock bands are no exception. Skid Row recently announced on social media that they are postponing three upcoming dates due to a number of sicknesses hitting the band. “Over the last couple of days, several band members & crew have come down with the flu and covid,” wrote the group on social media. Skid Row confirmed they were moving shows in Boise, ID, Reno, NV and Wheatland, CA to 2024.
The Postal Service And Death Cab For Cutie Extend Tour
The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie are extending their co-headlining tour. They recently announced the trek will span multiple countries including the U.S., Canada, England and Portugal. The tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of The Postal Service's album "Give Up" and Death Cab For Cutie's album "Transatlanticism," which were both released in 2003. The U.S. dates start on April 23rd in Atlanta and ends on May 15th in Portland. Tickets are available now.
Shirley Manson Halts Garbage Concert To Break Up A Fight
Garbage singer Shirley Manson was a profane peacemaker at the band's recent show in L.A. Manson halted their set at KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas to call out two female fans who were fighting.
Manson wasn't shy about it - she dropped 36 f-bombs in two minutes while calling for the fans to be separated. She added "we've got 30 minutes on this stage and you're ****ing eating into our time."
One of the girls involved in the fight told Entertainment Weekly "I felt like I got yelled at by my mom."
Sublime Perform With Bradley Nowell's Son Jakob
A very special Sublime reunion happened this week in Los Angeles. Surviving members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh performed a set with Jakob Nowell, the son of late frontman Bradley Nowell, on guitar and vocals. The trio played eight songs as part of a benefit concert for Bad Brains frontman H.R., including Sublime classics like "Wrong Way", "Santeria", and "What I Got". The trio may join up for more gigs in the future. In the meantime, Wilson continues to tour with the offshoot band Sublime with Rome.
Depeche Mode Gets Their Own Day In Los Angeles:
Depeche Mode was recently honored by the city. The group, made up of Dave Gahan and Martin Gore, was honored with their own day… December 13th will now be known in LA as “Depeche Mode Day.”
“Los Angeles and New York were the springboards, really, for our career in America,” admitted Gore. Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez presented the band with their special day at LA City Hall.
Vampire Weekend Say New Album Is Done
Vampire Weekend says they're finished recording their next album. Bassist Chris Baio capped off the band's latest newsletter with this: "So I’d like to conclude this update with the most exciting news: LP5 IS DONE." That's all we get as far as details, but we can expect to hear more soon. Vampire Weekend's last studio album was 2019's Father of the Bride.
Alice Cooper Hosts Annual Concert Fundraiser
The man who welcomed everyone to his "nightmare" in the 70s has been welcoming Phoenix-area teens to his music and art centers for nearly three decades. Alice Cooper hosted his annual "Christmas Pudding Fundraiser" concert over the weekend to benefit his Solid Rock Teen Centers in Phoenix and Mesa [[ MACE-uh ]], Arizona. The Phoenix-native Cooper performed, as did Sammy Hagar, Quiet Riot, and Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson among others. Hagar joined Wilson for a cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." According to its website, the teen centers provide free after-school training in all of the arts, free music lessons and even free studio time for area teenage bands that need a place to rehearse.
