Walk It Off Baby – 2 In a Row!!!! That’s right folks.  2 wins in a row for our Phighten Phils!!

Last night – Cole Hamels pitched like the total STUD that he is – going 8 strong, scattering 5 hits, walking only 1, and fanning 11.  And of course, allowing zero runs.  That is vintage Hamels.  If you watched – he was changing speeds brilliantly.  Let me tell you, when he changes speeds like that between his change up and fast ball – with his breaking ball mixed in there, he is as hard to hit as any ace in the majors.

Unfortunately, Hamels walked away with nothing to show for his effort.  The Phillies were ALSO scoreless in the game through 8, so he gets a no decision.  However, Hamels is HOT – and he shows no signs of cooling off.  His last seven starts have resulted in a 1.78 ERA with 56 strikeouts and just 15 walks in 50 and 2/3 innings.  That is huge – and that is our boy.

He has thrown 115+ pitches in his last 3 starts – which is “horse” material.  And he was still hitting 93 on the gun in the 8th with his heater.  I am liking it.

The 9th inning drama came with Dom Brown walking, and Carlos Ruiz taking one for the team when he was hit by a pitched ball – and Phillies had 2 on with Reid Brignac up.  Brignac crushed a Nick Vincent pitch for a gorgeous walk off 3 run HR win – as the Phillies defeat the Padres 3-0 and getting their first winning streak since the middle of May.  That is a great sign and since they are in the beginning of a long stretch of games – I would LOVE to see this team get hot and STAY hot and put us back in the race.

Lets face it – if the Phillies are not back in the race soon, Amaro will have no choice but to think about a fire sale of this team.  I am 100% certain he is getting inquisitions from other teams looking to ascertain what it would take to acquire some key guys from our club.  Utley, Lee, Howard, Rollins, and Papelbon – are all options for teams that are looking to load up before the trading deadline – and we would be able to get a whole hatful of prospects for any number of them.

Personally, I would prefer they get back in the race and keep this team together – but they really need to step up and get on a roll and get out of the basement of the NL East for things to turn around and for this team to be taken seriously again.  We can only hope. . .

By the way – to all my doubters when I declared Diekman the best of the pen – that guy looks about sharp as anyone.  He locates well and he was hitting 100 mph on the gun in Tuesday Night’s game.  He is the stud of that pen along with Papelbon.  And he is young and he is ours.

Lets pull all this together boys and get on a streak.  We deserve it
