Not quite as interesting as the movie but I am LOVING this road trip!!! On a nice run here winning 4 of the last 5 games on the road, DESPITE a bullpen that is absolutely horrible. As I mentioned yesterday, this team has some excellent things going for them – and also a couple glaring weak spots that have the potential to derail a very promising season if not addressed.
Last night, Phila used a 4 run 9th to complete a win of their series in LA taking 3 of 4 from the Dodgers. Again LOTS of positives coming out of this game and leaving me with VERY high hopes going into Arizona. Let’s review:
Revere is starting to make me a believer – and if his average continues to rise (.291 now), he will secure that leadoff spot for good. 2 for 5 again last night with 2 runs scored. And the heart of the lineup also continuing to whack the ball around – Bryd with a HUGE night with 4 RBI’s and now leads the team with 16. Ruiz was the BMOC in the 9th doubling in Asche and Revere for the game winning hit that broke the game open.
One stat to watch as we continue to win games. The walks per game. Last night, we drew 5 walks against LA pitching while only surrendering 2. That is an advantage that will keep us in games and keep us on the right track – and frankly is one of the biggest differences in this team from last year. Last year there were countless games where we had decent pitching keeping us in games, but our inability to put men on base and manufacture runs kept us from getting W’s.
Fireballer Diekman came into a 2 out-2 on jam in the 6th and bailed Kendrick out by striking out pinch hitter Kemp – and preserving the Phillies 3-2 lead.
Why is Freddy Galvis still in the majors and starting for the Phillies? I would like an explanation please. . . am I the only person that has seen his average? Or watches him at the plate? Wow. . .
Not concerned about Adams. He is off surgery and IMO will be fine as JP’s setup man. He made a mistake last night.
Heading into Arizona, I love our chances to win that series. We are going to see Hernandez, Lee, and Burnett – in that order. Tonight’s game will be tough as we are traveling, but Hernandez has seen Arizona once last year and owned them. And its not like Collmenter is Cy Young, but again as we mentioned in yesterday’s blog – walks could be key to the game. Collmenter doesn’t walk many guys – but if the Phillies can get BB’s and some baserunners – that is a game changer every single time.
Check back Monday morning for a Arizona series recap and a look ahead to the upcoming homestand.
Hey – Flyers need this one tonight. . . . HUGE.
