After losing 2 of 3 to the Chicago Cubs, the Phillies opened a three game series against the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park. Before the game, the Phillies made some September call up from the minor league affiliates they are Tyler Cloyd, Luis Garcia, *Mauricio Robles, Joe Savery, *Cameron Rupp & Freddy Galvis. The Pitching matchup was a battle of 2 of the game’s best when Cole Hamels took on Stephen Strasburg. Ryne Sandberg made some changes to lineup 
Cole Hamels & Stephen Strasburg were going head to head & matching each other pitch by pitch. Carlos Ruiz got the Phillies first hit of game in the 4th inning with a single to center scoring Jimmy Rollins to tie the game at 1. The game first runs came in the 1st inning when Ryan Zimmerman hits solo home run to left for a 1-0 lead. Cole Hamels & Stephen Strasburg would continue their pitcher duel. The Nationals would retake the lead in 8th inning when Scott Hairston hit  a sacrifice fly to center scoring  Anthony Rendon for a 2-1 lead.  The Phillies responded in the bottom of 8th inning when Jimmy Rollins doubles  to center scoring  Cesar Hernandez to tie game at 2, then Phillies would retake the lead when Carlos Ruiz singles to left scoring Jimmy Rollins for a 3-2 lead. Jonathan Papelbon comes in & throws a scoreless inning as Phillies would hold on for a 3-2 win.

Cole Hamels went 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 8 strikeouts on 87 pitches, Stephen Strasburg went 6 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 10 strikeouts on 100 pitches
