The Phillies & Nationals played game 2 of 3 game series vs. Washington Nationals from Citizens Bank Park, The Scheduled pitching matchup was Cliff Lee vs. Nationals Ross Detwiler. Charlie Manuel made changes to lineup; Kevin Frandsen got start at 2nd Base for 3rd straight game, Carlos Ruiz return from DL to get the start behind the plate.
Cliff Lee first pitch to Nationals Denard Span was a Strike. Carlos Ruiz would get the Phillies first hit of game in the 3rd inning on a base hit that dropped in front of Jayson Werth The first runs of game came in the top of 4th inning when Nationals Jayson Werth hits a solo home for an early 1-0 lead, the Phillies get on the board in the bottom of 4th inning when Ryan Howard hits a sacrifice fly to right scoring Michael Young to tie game at 1. The Phillies would add another run in the bottom of 6th inning when Michael Young doubles to right scoring Ben Revere for a 2-1 lead, then with bases loaded Kevin Frandsen hits single to left scoring Michael Young & Jimmy Rollins for a 4-1 lead. Michael Young would hit his 3rd double of the game in 7th inning. The Nationals would add another run in 8th inning when Jeff Kobernus hits Solo Home run to cut Phillies lead to 4-2. Ryan Howard would hit a triple in bottom of 8th inning. Cliff Lee would takeover in shutting down the Nationals; Jonathan Papelbon comes in 9th inning & Gets the save as the Phillies beat Nationals 4-2.
